February Recap…more and more VO!
February has absolutely ROCKED MY WORLD!! It always feels like you’ve won the lottery every time your agent or manager calls you to say “you booked it!”. In a world of “no’s”, each “yes” truly feels like you’ve won a gold metal in the olympics! It’s that refreshing. I have been super lucky that my agents have been able to provide me with so many opportunities. And now my management company, gets me even more. Some days I spend hours auditioning in the booth. Fifteen pieces of copy per day and some with multiple roles and characters. In my early days, one of my agents said to me, “I want you to be the VO Artist who can’t leave her house because you have back to back bookings all day long”. Wow! Yes please!!!!
With that being said…this month I had a lot of recordings going on. Mazda booked me for more of their. training videos. I booked an industrial video for T3 hair products. Woolite detergent booked me for a TV demo (these are always good because if they like the recording, they usually use you for the actual on air commercial). More recordings for SyFy channel promos. I booked Toyota commercials from a different region than So Cal, through my management. Younger, in it’s last push before it goes off the air, booked me for some promos and billboards. I have been the voice of that show for seven seasons! So sad to see it go, but those are the ebbs and flows of this business. Onward and upwards!

Home Studio Advice
With COVID seemingly not ending anytime soon, so many VO artists who did not have home studios are SCRAMBLING to get equipment so they can compete in now what has become a home recording studio VO world. Before this, the actual sound quality of your recordings were a small part of the actual audition. Because ad agencies or networks always had options of you going into a true recording studio to record the final version of the job. But now that is not the case. Sound quality MATTERS!!
For me, this has been amazing since it basically cuts down on the competition since not everyone can all of a sudden compete with those of us who have invested tens of thousands of dollars on a sound booth, high quality microphones, pre amps. editing software and programs like Source Connect that is absolutely the industry must have right now (it’s the Zoom of VO). But for others, this has not been the case. If you are looking to start a home recording studio, there are many things you can purchase to start sounding like a professional studio. If you are interested in talking “business”, you can contact me through my site and we can schedule an appt to get you up to speed on what you need to “sound” good in this now changed VO world.

January bookings!
January has been an awesome month! Yes…we are still in somewhat of a lockdown and wearing masks, but I have the good fortune of being able to work in my own studio. This has been such a blessing during this time. Recording studios have basically shut down (I mean…would you want to share a mic?) so thankfully I’ve had my studio and can work seamlessly from it.
As for bookings this month…I have had the good fortune to keep working for SYFY and other Viacom promos. Temptation Island, USA, and Magical Girl Friendship Squad to name a few. Also this month, I recorded some more commercials for Casper Sleep, Toyota radio and TV and booked a huge national commercial for Marshall’s!! Woo hoo!! Sometimes in VO, our work does not make it out to the public, but rather stays internally for certain companies. I just became the voice of the Mazda training videos for their service department and technicians. So it’s me walking them through their online training and explaining what they see on the screen. It’s a pretty cool gig.

New Blog Format for 2021!
Happy New Year! So excited to move into a new space and hopefully a new way of life that leads us back together. 2020 brought some interesting changes for the VO world. My division of my agency closed down, leaving many of my fellow VO peeps, without representation. That can be very hard in Los Angeles…so much competition, on camera actors rushing to do VO work since shooting in person has pretty much haulted, and agents not knowing us artists. The VO world can be very competitive and cut throat. And now not going into studios, you have to have your own studio in order to compete and stay relevant. I have never been more grateful than right now for having my own recording studio. It’s been amazing since the pandemic and has kept my career afloat. Sadly, that is not the same for everyone and my heart absolutely goes out to you. I can’t wait till we all get working again! Let’s hope this year brings us back into the studios where we belong.
I am going to be moving my blog posts to monthly posts so I can really summarize each month and any news I want to share. If something AMAZING comes up, I will likely create a special post to share with you. Thank you all for your continued support. It means the world to me!

Happy Holidays and Happy 2021!
Hi everyone!
I wanted to take a moment to wish you all Happy Holiday’s. This one is quite different as we are all staying safe and many of us won’t get to travel to see our families. So I am sending all of you virtual hugs and let’s hope 2021 brings us back together again.

Nexgard, Hartgard and Toyota!
What a way to start the holiday with many commercial bookings! Toyota, of course, has been one of my biggest clients to date. I feel so lucky to be one of their voices for four years now! I clearly remember booking the job when I was pregnant, so figuring out the time I have been working with them depends on my daughters age. Working with Davis Elen is a dream. Always so professional and their studio is very close to where I live, making it a breeze to work with them.
Just finished recording six commercials for Nexgard and Hartgard, heart worm medication for dogs. Such a fun session with the ad agency out of Kansas City. It’s always a pleasure to work with clients who know exactly what they are looking for in a voice artist. I’ve been told these are national bookings so fingers crossed they keep ’em running!
Happy Holidays!

Promos Promos!! Paramount + and SyFy!
December is dashing, and I’m “Dashing in December” as one of the voices of Paramount +. It’s been such a wonderful experience working with new producers. I have been treated very well by the Paramount family over the years, voicing many shows as well as their networks. SyFy Channel has been using me for some of their new animated series.
Promos are so much fun for me to do. It’s such an art. It’s timing, connecting with the audience, and delivering the information in the most natural way possible, with still matching the attitude of the show . SyFy is cool…so I have to move into that zone with my voice to make sure I’m delivering a tonality that matches the show I’m promoting, and it’s sometimes hard when you don’t watch the show. Promos also require a keen sense of timing. I have to say things in 3 seconds or 5 seconds. And deliver information clearly and concisely or it gets cut off. I was fortunate enough to learn so much about promos and have years of practice when I was the voice of the Style Network and also PAC-12 Network, at the same time. Talk about two very different types of promo work! But it gave me the confidence to do what I’m doing now. Promos for the win!
Commercials, Commercials! Toyota, Spira Care and Casper!
What a great last few weeks. Commercials have been such a great source of work for me. Over the last few weeks, I’ve recorded Radio and TV spots for Toyota, TV spots for Casper Sleep Systems and for Spira Care in Kansas City. Sometimes, it’s been double sessions as producers change scripts, add a line, or have many markets they are playing in so the tags have to reference those cities. It’s quite amazing to only have to change one line and the entire commercial gets played in a specific area. So thankful for all the work!! Really happy to be the voice of so many awesome brands.
CMT Music Awards…Nashville to LA!
Well my friends, with the pandemic in full effect, it’s been one tough time being able to get a large crowd together. So…the CMT Music Awards are still happening but this time instead of me flying to Nashville, I get to record from my home studio! And, they will also be taking place this month vs their usual time in April. I love that this show is going on as many people are employed this way. Kudos to CMT for making it happen, and thank you for having me back as your announcer! It won’t be live as usual but I will be channeling my inner Nashville from my booth here in LA!

Triple session today!
Wow, wow, wow, holy cow!!! Lot’s of work today. Besides the over 15 auditions I had today, I had three jobs and a call back. I could not be more excited to be the voice of the new Blue Cross and Blue Shield of KC radio and TV commercials. So fun working with the producers on this. They gave me such great direction and feedback. Made me feel proud of the work I do on a daily basis. We ended up having to do some re-records, but that is usually how it goes. My second session today was for Casper.com! The mattress company. Yay! I am the new voice of the commercial campaign on TV, and new media (internet), for both the US and Canada!! So grateful for this one as it will be heard in two countries! Then…the CMTMA’s are back but virtual! Instead of heading to Nashville this year, I got to voice the show all from home. I do miss the country twang and the feel of Nashville, but it was great that the show still went on and they used me again for the fifth year in a row. Congrats to all the winners!
