Time for thanks…

November is always a month I am super grateful for.  I happen to LOVE Thanksgiving.  Being someone who meditates regularly, and is always in practice of gratefulness and abundance, November represents a time for all of us to really dedicate to being thankful for all we have all around us.  This year it really hits home as someone very close to me was given some “not-so good” news regarding his heath.  So the thing I am grateful and thankful for is that he has so much love and support all around him, and we are all here to make sure he vibrates at his optimal level while going through what he must in order to beat this.  It’s not easy, but miracles can happen.

Besides my family and friends and all of the love and support I have in my life, I am so thankful for my VO career.  November has been plentiful with continued bookings with Hallmark, TV Land, Bally Sports and now Summer’s Eve.  So grateful and so thankful.  Always.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Halloween!

One of my favorite times of the year…Halloween!  So much fun, especially with a little one.  Pumpkin patches, dress up, scary things, carving pumpkins, and candy.  You can’t forget about the candy, of course.  While October has been a great month with bookings from TV Land, Toyota, Casper, and Hallmark, really it’s been about Halloween planning and executing for my little one’s school and friends.  She’s going  as a fairy and Carmen San Diego.  Super cute!

Have a great time and be safe while you trick or treat!

Casper Sleep Systems!

Well well well…Casper is back!  I am so proud to be the voice for their holiday campaign once again this year! They have the best sleep systems and have been such a loyal client of mine, asking me back to record for them for a third time!! I always feel so lucky to have repeat clients.  In the cut throat world of VO, the competition is fierce.  So when you get asked to record a campaign again, it does feel like the universe is watching out for you.  Check it out below and let me know if you’ve heard me!

First booking off my audition…Hallmark Channel and Epic!

When certain milestones happen in your career, it gives you a little boost.  When you finally get that RFP you’ve been working so hard for.  When you win a court case that’s been going on for years.  When you win a gold medal at the Olympics.  Well…mine does not quite compare to that, but for me. it’s a milestone.  For the first time in my entire 15 year career, not one but TWO of my auditions went straight to air and I got paid a season fee for each!  I am officially a voice for the Hallmark Channel’s “Countdown to Christmas”, along with the Epic! Books app for kids reading.  I am incredibly proud and owe a lot to my amazing promo coach, Jodi Gottlieb.  She absolutely coached my entire audition (yes, I still use coaches as well) and helped me book the job.  Forever grateful to her for this!  For Hallmark, I will be recording a ton of promos promoting all of their family night movies on the channel.  And for Epic Books, it was a one time buy out but it lives on their channel/app for now!  What a journey and what a milestone to reach for me. It’s always why I preach that the AUDITIONS are the JOBS.  The rest is just the icing on the cake.  Thanks for the support!

August in full swing!

Hot hot hot in August!!  But VO is still in full swing.  Booked a few new gigs this month which I am super proud of!  One…I’m the new voice of the show called “Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet” on Nat Geo Wild!  Such a great show so make sure to check it out on Nat Geo Wild!  I also booked some commercials for Sherwin Williams paint…we recorded four in all.  Commercials and Promos is stil where I book most of my work.  When I tell people I do voice overs, one of the first things they ask me is “what characters do you do?”  It’s such an interesting question because it makes me realize that so many think that voice over is about what voices you can create or what character on an animated series you are.  Voice Over is so much more than creating interesting voices. Yeah that is a part of it, but in reality, voice over is everywhere.  It’s training videos, rides at Disneyland, the on-hold voice you hear when you call your doctor’s office, etc.  Literally everywhere.  So while we as VO artists can create cool characters, a lot of us book on our own voices, the cadence and our authentic reads.  Plenty of work for all of us!

If you think you have what it takes to make it in VO, send me an email and I will gladly set up an appointment with you.

Voice over from a Boat…

What a busy few months it has been!  Finally feeling comfortable to travel long trips and hopefully this pandemic is starting to settle a bit.  Went to Croatia, and it was sooooo beautiful!  It was one of my best friend’s birthday so we got a boat and sailed the Adriatic.  Such a gorgeous country.  We had an extra cabin in our catamaran so I was lucky enough to turn it into my VO studio!  I brought my equipment with me and since we were 9 hours ahead time wise, I would record while out at sea, and upload my auditions once we were on land.  Quite the studio, I must say.  My friends were very interested and impressed at how I was able to make this work. Good thing I have great editing software where I can silence the lapping sounds of the waves against the boat.  Had a few sessions where I was able to record and send it in without using Source Connect.   Took my family on a vacation to Costa Rica as well this month.  Such an amazing country.  The people, the green, the waves, the howler monkeys!!  I am sure they got into a few recordings here and there.  But all in all, I made it work with my summer travel plans and recording.

Oh oh!!  And I booked a Dunkin’ commercial! My first one!!  I have auditioned for so many of these and I finally booked it! Yay!!  Check it out below!  Wait for it at the end…

Summertime VO!

Happy Summer everyone!!  I love summertime!   Warm weather, sunshine, outdoors. Los Angeles is a great place for summer weather as by the beach, where I live and have my studio, it rarely gets past 80 degrees.  Clear skies and abundant sunshine.  I guess you can say it’s why we pay the “happy tax”.  Lots of bookings this month with my regular promo clients and hoping to book some new gigs really soon!  I’m off of the grid for a few weeks for summer travel but I will write when I’m back.

VO and Travel!

Well the month of May is upon us and if you are like me, summer travel is on the horizon.  I have several trips ahead…Tulum and Croatia.  One is for a friends birthday and the other is a bucket list item that I have been wanting to accomplish.  I get a lot about how I travel and work.  How do I record?  Where?  What is my set up like?  One of the reasons I love voice over so much is that as long as there is a STRONG internet connection, you are able to travel with your equipment (yes, you will most likely have to check a bag), and you have invested in computer programs and a good travel set up, most studios won’t even know that you are on the road and not in your home studio.  I have recorded in Ireland, on a boat in Tahiti, Australia, Bali. Iceland, and even in conference rooms in airport hotels.  The only way I have been able to travel the way I do is because I have invested pretty extensively in a travel voice over kit.  A sound dampening sound booth, preamp that travels well, my lap top, computer programs like Source Connect and Phone Patch, my iPad for scripts and a good microphone (I travel with my Sennheiser 416), are what round out my travel kit.  It’s a game changer if you want to travel and work.  Definitely worth the investment.

If you want to know more about my travel set up and how you can also travel and work, contact me and we can set up a consultation so you can learn all the ins and outs of what’s needed to succeed!

Bally Sports, Younger and more Fender Play!

April was such an amazing month!!  I officially became one of the new voices of Bally Sports (used to be Fox Sports!). I could not be more excited!!  One of the first big jobs I did was for Pac 12 Network, were I was the first female voice they had ever hired to voice a lot of the college sports promos.  I worked for them for almost three years and it was such a great gig to have to really work on my promo reads.  I was on the mic every other day at the same time while being the voice of the Style Network. My life was all about promos at the time and I was loving every minute of it.  What’s great about Bally Sports is that it’s done in half hour sessions.  So as many spots as they can get to me in 30 minutes, is what we get to record.  Anything over four scripts and I get paid for an hour.  Promo rates really vary depending on the network.  Some pay per spot and per tag if you are on a particular show (like Younger), others pay by time and amount of scripts.  For Style Network, I was on salary and they had me twice per day, every day if they needed me.  Gigs like Fender Play, since it lives on the site and it’s not just per show or spot, is a one time buy out and the rate is usually a lot higher since there are not residuals for it nor is it a network gig.  Happy to do it, nevertheless.

If you are interested in learning more about doing VO for promos (it truly is an art). feel free to contact me so we can set up a time to talk some biz!

March Madness…literally!

Three national commercials booked this month plus all of my regulars!!  Wow, March Madness to say the least.  I am so excited about being the voice of Botox for Migraines.  This is slated to be a huge campaign.  Of course, I book the job stating all of the side effects and make them not sound so bad.  What is great about this type of job, is that they can lift my portion of it and use it for future commercials without having to book another recording session.  Pretty amazing.  Second national is for Trelegy, which is a COPD medication.  Again…I am here to make the indications or side effects not sound so bad.  Glad my soothing voice can lend itself so well to medications! Fender Play is a new guitar learning app and I am also happy to report that I am the voice for that as well!  Woolite finally booked me for the on air spots!  So happy to be their new voice.  They asked for exclusivity, which usually means it will play nationally in all markets.  Exclusivity means that I cannot be the voice of any other detergent.  Which I totally get, since it would be weird to hear the same voice on competing products.  Lots of other bookings for my regulars as well, but those three stood out.
